PASTOR'S GET CONNECTED CLASSES (Connect, Grow, Serve, Lead)
Members and regular attendees at FBC are greatly encouraged to take advantage of an informative series of classes entitled "Connect," "Grow," "Serve," and "Lead" taught by Pastor Malamma. These classes provide the tools that individuals need to discover the process of discipleship: a disciple or follower of Jesus who is growing to be like Jesus, serving in Jesus’ name, and learning to lead like Jesus led.
- The Connect Class. The Connect class is the first of four classes (Connect, Grow, Serve, and Lead) and is designed to strengthen your relationship with Jesus Christ. The Connect class answers four questions that are important for all of us to know:
1. How do I connect with Jesus?
2. What does our church family believe?
3. How should our church family be structured?
4. What does our church family do?
Taking the Connect class prepares you for the Grow class. As you spend time with Pastor Eric, you will discover what is on the heart of our pastor.
- The Grow Class. Jesus desires his followers to grow. In the Grow class you are taught the four habits every follower of Jesus needs in order to grow, and you will get the resources you need to begin to put those habits into your life.
- The Serve Class. We serve God by serving others. The Serve class will help you discover how you can serve effectively by helping you discover how God shaped you to serve and preparing you to tell your story about Jesus.
- The Lead Class. We want to equip people to lead, not only in the church, but also in marriages, families and in the marketplace. The Lead class will show you how to lead like Jesus with Christ-like character and conduct.

Typically these evening classes include a light meal. For more information on Sunday evening classes, contact the church at 293-5300.

SMALL GROUPS
At Anacortes First Baptist Church we believe in the importance of getting involved in a small group Bible study. Small groups serve as an essential means for personal spiritual growth. We believe that Christians will develop into spiritual maturity by being active in a small group where they study God’s scripture, fellowship, pray, share and care for each other. Small groups are available to people of all ages: kids, teens, singles, couples, adults, and retirees!
Small groups meeting regularly include:
Weekly
Tuesdays: 10:30-11:30 a.m. King's Class (meets in the Fellowship Hall).
9:30-11:30 a.m. Womens Bible Study (morning session)
6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Womens Bible Study (evening session)
Wednesdays: 9:30-11:30 a.m. Moms Coffee Break (meets in the Fellowship Hall)
Thursdays: 9:00 a.m. Mens Bible Study classes (meet in the classrooms and library).
Monthly
Thursdays: 9:30-11:00 a.m. Serenity Seekers. A biblically based cancer and life-threatening disease women's support group. During thethis group meets on the third Thursday of each month (in classroom 6). For more information, contact Fran Bohall at 293-5300.
Bi-monthly
Friday evenings: PrimeTimers meets bi-monthly in Fellowship Hall for a time of fun, food, laughter, sharing, and fellowship.
In addition to signing up to participate in a small group, other ways to get involved include:
♦ Agreeing to facilitate a small group.
♦ Leading a small group in a Bible study
♦ Arranging a small group activity
♦ Offering your home as a meeting place
♦ Inviting your friends and neighbors to participate in a small group.
At FBC our small groups provide a place where we can experience community and reach out to our community. Small groups are open to new people, offer a flexible menu of studies that are biblical, practical and consistent with the belief and direction of the church, have an outward-focused mission as part of their small group experience, and value the presence of prayer, study and fellowship within the group. The groups meet at the church and in homes. A majority of our small groups conclude their studies in June and begin new studies in the Fall. For more information on how you can get involved in a small group, contact Pastor Eric at 293-5300.

DISCIPLESHIP
FBC’s Discipleship Ministry’s mission is to establish intentional one-on-one relationships with others of the same sex for the specific purpose of challenging one another toward greater maturity in Jesus Christ. This ministry’s goals are to: (1) create/acquire materials and make them available for those interested in one-on-one mentoring/discipleship relationships; (2) encourage men and women to begin intentional discipleship relationships; and (3) make known to our congregation both the purpose and availability of such relationships. Those interested in participating in a discipling relationship with new believers and believers hoping to grow in their faith are encouraged to contact Pastor Eric Malamma at 293-5300. The time required would be determined by the individuals involved. Volunteers who want to disciple should have a plan for following up with those they are discipling (e.g., plan to meet weekly for an hour at a predetermined location).

CHURCH-WIDE ACTIVITIES & PROGRAMS
There are dozens of ways you can get involved in service opportunities within Anacortes First Baptist Church. Just a few
are listed below:
Assistants & Instructors. Children's Ministries volunteers who teach and assist with kids Sunday school classes, work in the nursery and toddler care rooms, help out with crafts, provide childcare on Wednesday mornings during Moms Coffee Break, and assist with Parents Night Out and VBS events.
Baptisms. Volunteers assist with baptisms by ensuring that baptismal robes are clean and available and by assisting those being baptized (aiding them into and out of the baptistry).
Bridges for Peace. Bridges For Peace is a Jerusalem-based, Bible-believing Christian organization supporting Israel and building relationships between Christians and Jews worldwide through education and practical deeds expressing God's love and mercy. Those involved in this ministry at FBC gather together to pray for Israel as part of the CHAI (Life) Prayer Group. For more information contact Barbara Andersen at mistel9@aol.com.
Conversational Dinners. Conversational dinners allow people from the congregation to host or attend a small dinner at a member/regular attender’s home (dinners are typically comprised of three to four couples, although singles also attend). During these dinners individuals have the opportunity to share how they came to know the Lord and how He is working in their lives. Schedules are flexible and sign ups typically occur in late summer.
Greeters, Rovers and Valets. Each Sunday a group of men and women welcome visitors at the entrances to our church, move around greeting attenders, and offer to park the cars of those requiring a little extra assistance due to their physical limitations. For more information on getting involved, contact Paul Stannert (stannert1@comcast.net) or Bob Bjerk (bjerk@comcast.net).
Hour of Prayer Ministry. All are invited to join this devoted prayer team each Wednesday evening in our sanctuary from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. for an hour of prayer. This time is used to pray for the needs of our congregation, the community, and our world. Participants may bring their own prayer needs to the group and receive personal prayer.
Library Ministry. Volunteer to help out at our church library. For more information, contact Beth Jaques at sailon@fidalgo.net.
New Member Registration. This ministry is comprised of volunteers who assist the Pastor by meeting with those desiring church membership, answering their questions, and assisting them in completing membership paperwork.
Prayer Chain. Those involved on FBC’s prayer chain pray for the needs of those in our congregation and within the community. For more information or to put a request on the prayer chain, contact Nancy Cooley at 293-6902.
Prison Ministries (Men’s and Women’s Jail Ministry). Broken souls are in desperate need of ministry from men and women who feel the call to ministry in the jails. Pray that God will call and send servants. For more information, contact Joanne Harker at harkymalarky@verzon.net.
Scholarship Selection. Annually, FBC provides three scholarships to individuals within our congregation. For more information regarding this program, contact June Dixon via the church office at 293-5300.

Touch of Home. The “Touch of Home” ministry reaches out to our college students and other young adults who have left the area by sending them care packages throughout the school year. With the motto, “Be a blessing…send a blessing,” the Touch of Home ministry sends letters and small gifts of encouragement to our church’s kids. Volunteers mail cookies, greeting cards, coffee cards, fast food cards, movie rental cards, dorm décor, popcorn, candy, movie tickets, and “little somethings” to our youth at least three times each year (in the Fall, at Valentine’s Day and at Easter time). For more information contact Nancy Stannert at stannert1@comcast.net.
Additional ways our congregation can get involved include working on the church's Flower Committee, volunteering to work at our coffee stand in between Sunday services, acting as Communion preparers and servers, maintaining the sanctuary, and helping out in the church's front office. For more information on how to get "plugged in" to a volunteer/service position at the church, contact Pastor Eric at 293-5300.
